Congratulations to Stephanie Hopp, MS, MHS, a second-year ACOM student. Hopp’s article, “Medical diagnoses of heat wave-related hospital admissions in older adults” was just accepted for publication in the journal Preventive Medicine.
Hopp and her co-authors from the T.H. Chan Harvard School of Public Health and the Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Reasearch Institute looked at a national cohort of 23.7 million Medicare enrollees from 1999-2010. They identified 11 diagnoses, including heat stroke, sunstroke, and fluid and electrolyte disorders, with a higher risk of hospital admissions on heat wave days.
