The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine curriculum is a hybrid model utilizing discipline- and system-based clinical presentation didactic instruction blended with small group, web-based, independent and interactive learning. The innovative curriculum will present core concept knowledge in the traditional discipline-based manner followed by student-centered teaching and learning by way of a patient-centered, clinical presentation/system based integrated curriculum.
The curricular model complements state-of-the-art educational methods. This includes basic foundational sciences inclusive of anatomy with cadaver dissection and prosection, hands-on physical diagnosis, integrated osteopathic manipulation, small group problem solving, high-fidelity patient simulation, standardized patients, community service, extensive clinical procedures, as well as clinical clerkships in the core disciplines of medicine.
This blended model continually reinforces the application of learned knowledge into a clinical framework for long-term retention.
